ABOUT THE ANNUAL HAUNTINGS TOURS

These popular 90-minute walking tours take guests through historic downtown Leesburg, VA to various “spirited” homes and businesses. You’ll be led to these historic homes & businesses  where historically costumed storytellers will relate the history and the ghostly tales of each site. The sites vary each year—keeping favorite locations while creating a different Hauntings experience!

“Once a year, through the generosity of the property owners, we’re able take the tours inside several of the haunted places. We have people coming from all over the country for this,” says Peter Kelpinski, Hauntings founder. “We have some sites where the stories need to be updated each year because new occurrences are documented over the past year.”

Hear about the widow who fought to keep her house and has never left. She even helps with the housework! Look for the Civil War Colonel who watches over the office staff during the day and many more spirits that do more than “go bump in the night!” “Our goal is to leave our guests unsettled, so they’ll be leery of turning off the lights at bedtime and a bit more suspicious of those little sounds one hears during the night,” Kelpinski adds with a chuckle. “We scare you the good old-fashioned way, with the fine art of well-told ghost stories.”

All proceeds benefit the Loudoun Museum.

Since 1991, many have enjoyed Hauntings. Please help us continue this unique event that benefits The Loudoun Museum. Help at any level is greatly appreciated.

THINGS TO KNOW!

This year, the tours will visit six haunted homes and sites in downtown historic Leesburg, and we estimate each tour will cover eight blocks and last about 90 minutes.  Here are a few reminders to help make your tour as enjoyable as possible.

Dress for the weather. Tours continue even in rain. Wear comfortable walking shoes. On the tour, you’ll be walking on brick sidewalks and uneven terrain.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time to check in and gather with the rest of your tour group. The tours will leave promptly. Tickets are non-refundable.

Check-in for the walking tours is in the lobby of the Leesburg Town Hall at 25 West Market Street. Parking is available in the garage next to the Town Hall.

Due to the their historic nature, many of the buildings on the Hauntings tour are not handicap accessible. Please contact us for more information for each year’s accessibility.

The tour will end at the Loudoun Museum at 16 Loudoun Street SW. The museum is located behind the Town Hall and next to the parking garage.

Reminder that the tour is not recommended for children under 10 years old as there is a lot of listening and standing. Infants and strollers are not permitted on the tours.
