ITEM 221: Fife - Often played by the youngest soldiers to call out the orders on the battlefield and in camp from pre-Revolutionary America through the Civil War. Today, it is still used by re-enactors and folk musicians. History, instructions, and music included. $16 in. $6.95 each

ITEM 223: Maple Penny Whistle - As above, but made of sanded and polished maple wood for a richer sound.Closely related to the recorder, but easier to learn. History, instructions, and music included. 11 in. $12.50 each
ITEM 224: Pocket Pal Harmonica - This instrument dates back to 3,000 B.C. when the Chinese Emperor Nyn-Kwa is csredited with inventing the "sheng," considered the forerunner to the modern harmonica. A great many soldiers during the Civil War had a harmonica in their pocket $7.50 each
ITEM 225: Jaw Harp - A fixture in North American folk music, its history goes back to the Middle Ages. The notes produced by this instrument depend on the players breathing and control of the tongue of the harp. $4.50 each.

ITEM 232: Climbing Bear - Pull the strings and watch as this wooden bear slowly climbs up the three foot cords. Bear is 5 in. wide x 6 in. tall. $ 7.50 each.
Bilbo Catcher thumbnail
ITEM 233: Bilbo Catcher - One end of the spindle is a cup and the other is a peg. The object is to catch the ball in the cup, or on the peg end of the spindle (a hole drilled in the cup makes this not totally impossible). A challenge for everyone over eight. Turned wood spindle is 5 in. long. $5.95 each.

ITEM 235: Spinning Tops - One of the oldest known toys, children have played with tops since 2000 BC. These wooden tops come two to a package. $ 3.25 per package.
ITEM 236: Cup and Ball Toy - The object of the game is to swing the wooden ball into a cup at one end of a spindle. This teaches dexterity, and is great fun for everyone over three years old. $5.50 each
ITEM 237: Whirligig - Mentioned in English literature as early as 1686, these toys also have been found in Native American cliff ruins. Made from lead free pewter. Simply spin the whirligig in a circular motion until completely wound, pull your hands apart and watch and listen as the coin spins. $ 3.00 each

ITEM 241: Glass Marbles - Marble games have been played all over the world for more than 2,000 years. Glass marbles became treasured possessions of children in the 19th Century and are now valuable to collectors. Our reproductions lack the nicks and cracks of the well used antiques and are packed in a brown suede pouch. Contains history and instsructions. $5.95 each.
ITEM 242: Clay Marbles - Known as "crockies" and "muddies" in earlier times, children played with clay marbles before glass marbles were invented. Examples of clay marbles have even been found in Roman ruins. Packed in a brown pouch. Contains history and instructions. $6.25 each
ITEM 243: Pewter Dice - Colonial soldiers hammred their musket balls into crude dice to play games such as Hazard (for which instructions are included). Lead free, with history and instsructions for dice games. 3 in a package. (Not suitable for young children.) $3.50 each

ITEM 244: Wood Dice - Almost every Colonial home had dice -- ivory in the wealthier homes, wood in the common man's home. Instructions for Colonial dice games are included, or by several sets and use them for fun arithmetic practice (4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = ?). Two sets in each bag. (Not suitable for young children.) $2.00 each
ITEM 245: Reproduction Arrowheads and Spear Points - Flint chipped to look like the real things. Various sizes. Let us choose for you. $1.50 each
ITEM 246: Fox and Geese - A game said to have been brought to America by either Hessian mercenaries or French troops under Lafayette during the Revolutionary War; it has been played ever since. For two players eight or older. Wooden board and marbles. $ 12.50 each
ITEM 247: Graces, also called French hoops - A historic outdoor game designed to develop feminine grace. Young boys also played the game, or kept score (as a lark). $15.95 each
